General information

The community-based activities of Rumah Teman (Friend's House)
began following the devastating earthquake that shook the region of
Yogyakarta in central Java, Indonesia on the 27th of May 2006. Expats and local
residents came together to carry out an emergency response action and rebuilding
plan, with the assistance of friends and family in both Indonesia and
abroad.
Due to the success of these initial earthquake aid projects,
Rumah Teman decided to continue programming that helps to
improve living conditions in the region of Yogyakarta.
Environmental pollution and its larger widespread impacts such as global
warming and climate change are issues affecting our world today. Rumah
Teman currently focuses on raising local consciousness to reduce
environmental degradation by example of river clean-ups, garbage separation
and recycling, and supporting the production of items made from reused waste
materials.
